America's Leading Independent Traveling Museum of African American History
Founded by Dr. Khalid el-Hakim in 1995, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum (BH101MM) is the nation's leading independent traveling museum dedicated to African American history and culture.
For three decades, the museum has built one of the country's largest privately held educational collections of Black historical artifacts, preserving more than 15,000 original objects spanning the transatlantic slave trade to contemporary Black culture, including one of the nation's most significant educational collections documenting the history and evolution of hip hop.
Known as "The Schomburg of the Hip-Hop Generation," Dr. el-Hakim has devoted his life's work to preserving the Black experience through scholarship, education, and the power of original artifacts.
Over the past 30 years, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum has presented exhibitions and educational programs at more than 1,000 schools, colleges, universities, libraries, museums, corporations, conferences, and community organizations across 43 states, making it the most extensively traveled independent Black history museum in the United States.
More than a museum, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum is a national movement dedicated to preserving history, inspiring dialogue, and empowering future generations through the authentic stories that shaped America.
